An oven mitt has an excellent surface for embellishment. We chose a Flourish Alphabet Monogram to personalize ours, joking how we could embroider “L” on one hand, “R” on the other — just in case you get confused when baking!
Two hearts are better than one, and our heart shaped oven mitts are the perfect pair. They slip on to give you a protected, flexible grip. Free patterns are offered for both the full heart shape as well as the unique curved pockets.
This pair of oven mitts has a tough industrial style: clean lines, simple patterns + bold machine-inspired accents. Light to mid-weight canvas and denim are excellent choices. Neutral tones and simple patterns keep the utilitarian flair.
Start with an off-the-shelf hot pad and mitt set – we found ours for just $2 – add some simple fabric and trim details and voila: style on a shoestring and a great first make. It’s also an excellent ScrapBusters project.
Hot pads provide a great small surface to experiment with embellishment. Since they’ll be around a heat source, you can’t go wild, but subtle touches in natural fibers are so pretty. We used ribbon + decorative stitching.
The perfect kitchen gift set. There’s an adorable half apron with two matching hot pads. Bundle up the trio with a set of your favorite recipes and a few kitchen utensils to create a handmade-from-the-heart gift basket.
Pull out some pretty fabrics from your scrap stash and blend them together into a happy mix of pattern and color. Each mitt uses up to four different fabrics. They’d make a great gift for wedding shower season!
The Janome Circular Sewing Attachment, Aurifil Thread, and multiple rows of decorative stitching work together to create a “round-tastic” set of hot pads. Add a special recipe or unique seasoning for an excellent gourmet gift.
This happy pair of hot pads is all about the beauty of a perfect line. We selected a wide stripe for the front, then highlighted it with parallel rows of bright decorative stitching. Wrap up several as a unique host/hostess gift.
